TRAINING ON APPLICATION OF DIGITAL MODELS TO IMPROVE WATER RESOURCES MANAGEMENT

July 26, 2022, Kyzylorda, Kazakhstan | ECO-ARAL project in cooperation with the Kazakh Research Institute of Rice named after I. Zhakhayev and the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) conducted a training on “Application of Ground Control Models, Remote Sensing/Geographic Information Systems and Computer models to improve water resources management at basin and sub-basin levels”. Representatives of the Aral-Syrdarya Basin Inspection on Regulation, Use and Protection of Water Resources, Kazakh Research Institute of Rice named after I. Zhakhayev, RSE “Kyzylorda Hydrogeological Hydromeliorative Expedition” of the MoA RK, Kyzylorda branch of RSE “Kazvodkhoz” and others took part in the training.

During the training, international and national experts presented innovative methods of water resources analysis and monitoring using methods and tools of remote sensing, geographic information systems (GIS). In addition, various methods of water saving, water accounting, water measurement facilities on agricultural lands, application of ground and remote sensing models, GIS and computer software for systematic water resources management and assets for irrigators, various tools for water consumption assessment, etc. were presented.

At the end of the training the participants were given certificates. Possible piloting of modern water saving methods to develop and improve the efficiency of water use in the Aral Sea region was also discussed.
