The ECO-ARAL project conducted the next third module of the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Earth Observation training program, which included a study tour to Germany with national partners from Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan to get acquainted with the practical application of products based on GIS and Earth observation in various environmental projects in Germany.
In particular, the participants got acquainted with the project activities of the Reiner Lemoine Institute (RLI) in Berlin; visited the village of Feldheim (Brandenburg), which gets all electric and thermal energy from renewable sources, the evaluation of which is based on satellite images; visited the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK, Potsdam), where they got acquainted with the scientific and project activities of the Institute in terms of GIS and Earth observation.
In addition, the participants attended the Living Planet Symposium 2022, which is one of the largest Earth observation conferences in the world. The participants attended different sessions on the latest world achievements in environmental, climate observation and other processes, received consultations from experts of the German Aerospace Center (DLR), Esri and other experts on the use of GIS products.
The study tour was the concluding third stage of the training series. Upon the end of the training program, participants are able to apply their knowledge and skills in the processes of planning, decision-making, implementation of environmental and other projects based on GIS and Earth observation.
