ECO-ARAL PROJECT STEERING COMMITTEE WORKSHOP 2022-2023

The second meeting of ECO-ARAL Project Steering Committee, established to coordinate the activities of the project, as well as the development of key areas and coordination of activities implemented under the project, took place in Astana on December 2, 2022.

During the meeting the project team presented the results of the project in 2022 and discussed the work plan for 2023. According to the results of the current year:

  • 20 studies were conducted,
  • more than 600 people participated in trainings, research and experience exchange within the framework of the project,
  • 5 study and experience exchange trips were organized, including to Germany and Thailand,
  • 5 Memorandums were signed and/or prepared for signing in the fields of forestry, tourism, protected areas, and aquaculture.

During the discussions there were many comments and suggestions for joint work next year in the field of forestry and biodiversity conservation, protected areas management and tourism, agriculture and water management, geographic information systems and remote sensing, which will be taken into account in the planning of project activities.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyzylorda province Akimat, the Executive Directorate of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea in the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Biodiversity Conservation Fund, the Association of Environmental Organizations of Kazakhstan, FAO in the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Kazakhstani Rice Research Institute named after I.Zhakhayev.
